Frequently Asked Questions
Have a Question? We have Answers.
Do you take insurance?
Choosing not to accept insurance was a thoughtful and deliberate decision at Sarfo Psychiatry. Our primary goal is always to provide you with the highest quality, personalized care to help you effectively reach your mental wellness objectives. While insurance can offer financial support, it often comes with restrictions that can impact the quality and flexibility of your treatment.
Insurance companies typically require extensive documentation, detailed diagnoses, and specific treatment plans. This administrative burden can divert valuable time and attention away from our primary focus—your personalized mental health care. Additionally, insurance providers frequently limit the number of covered visits and restrict available treatment options, potentially hindering your ability to access the most effective, tailored care.
By operating as a cash-only practice, Sarfo Psychiatry can ensure you receive the personalized attention and flexibility you deserve. Without insurance-related constraints, we can dedicate more time to each patient, offer a broader range of therapeutic approaches, and create treatment plans specifically suited to your unique needs.
Furthermore, our cash-only model enhances your privacy and confidentiality. Using insurance often means your mental health information must be shared with insurance providers, potentially making it accessible to external entities, such as life insurance companies. At Sarfo Psychiatry, your sensitive information remains private and is shared strictly on a need-to-know basis, ensuring your peace of mind and confidentiality.
We recognize that treatment costs may be a concern, and we’re dedicated to working with you to create manageable and practical payment arrangements. Investing in your mental health is one of the most meaningful decisions you can make, and we're committed to supporting you every step of the way.

Will my provider insist on medication even if I’m hesitant or prefer alternative approaches?
We fully support your right to choose a treatment plan that aligns with your comfort level and preferences. While we recommend evidence-based treatments, we’re also happy to explore gentler approaches, such as complementary and alternative medicine, if that’s where you’d like to begin. You know yourself best, and our goal is always to empower you in making informed decisions about your care.
Will my provider prescribe medication that causes sexual side effects or weight gain? I don’t want to spend money out-of-pocket on treatment that doesn’t align with my goals or improve my well-being—and might even make things worse.
We will openly discuss all potential side effects, risks, and benefits of any recommended treatment, providing straightforward, honest information. At Sarfo Psychiatry, our approach prioritizes high-quality, compassionate clinical care—the kind we’d confidently recommend to our own friends and family. Because we don’t answer to insurance companies, you can trust that your personal goals and best interests always come first. This is our commitment to you.
Do I need to have a primary care doctor?
While it’s not required, we strongly recommend having a primary care provider. Mental and physical health are deeply interconnected, and coordinating care with your primary care doctor helps us deliver the most comprehensive and effective treatment. If you don’t currently have one, we’d be happy to provide recommendations to trusted providers who align with your needs.
Will my appointments be virtual or in-person?
All appointments at Sarfo Psychiatry are conducted virtually, allowing you to receive personalized, high-quality care from the comfort and convenience of your own home. Our secure telehealth platform ensures privacy, flexibility, and easy accessibility for all your sessions.
Are there any hidden fees?
No surprises here—every fee is clearly listed on our services page. At Sarfo Psychiatry, transparency is a core value, and we ensure you always know exactly what to expect.
What do you offer besides psychiatric services?
At Sarfo Psychiatry, in addition to psychiatric services, we provide ADHD coaching, Social Media, and business mentoring. Additionally, if you’re facing challenges locating a pharmacy to fill your prescription, our dedicated care team is here to offer personalized pharmacy support and guidance.
Do you offer payment plans?
No, not at this time.
When do I pay for my service?
We require payment of service prior to the service. We require a credit card on file, which will be automatically charged the day of your scheduled appointment.
What if I don’t show up to my service?
We have a $100 late cancel/no show fee.
Are there any medications you do not prescribe?
We typically do not prescribe long term benzodiazepines and only use them sparingly at this practice. Controlled substances that we do prescribe are prescribed 30 days at a time.
What is a psychiatric nurse practitioner?
A psychiatric nurse practitioner is a medical professional who has expertise in mental health. Like psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners can assess their patients’ symptoms, prescribe medication, and sometimes offer talk therapy.
What is a therapist?
A therapist is a mental health professional who specializes in talk therapy. While therapists can’t prescribe medication, they can help you explore emotional challenges and develop coping strategies.
